ARTIST STATEMENT
My work on my animation explores and expresses a personal context through the relationship between my exposure to death and my experiences with balance. I have explored a contemporary context using digital animation as well as traditional methods like acrylic paints and fine sketches. Exposure to death can render an individual easily susceptible to issues regarding mental health and this can influence individuals' interactions with the life around them. Throughout this animation, dragons are used to represent the balance between life and death. By using symbols for each dragon gives the audience the opportunity to guess when in my story am I feeling the effects of life or death. This piece attempts to connect to the audience and provides the viewers a new way of thinking.
ARTWORK PROCESS
For my artwork I wanted to push the boundaries using new technologies to create an animation. I had no idea how many pencil sketches I would need to complete my project. I filled three sketchbooks with many individual drawings, then took photos and drew over them using the digital drawing program, Procreate. Finally, the separate animations which were made in Procreate were edited using the app Capcut then I recorded my own narration to accompany the animation.
