ARTIST STATEMENT
As society continues to develop through the innovation of products and services, they ignore or become unaware of the adverse effects excessive product packaging has on the environment and wildlife. Through a cultural context Ramifications of Man-kind explores the ignorance of man and the impact packaging has on our society with regards to pollutants, contamination, and habitats. Ramifications of Man-kind explores abstract formations through universal shapes with bright recognisable colours to emphasise the extreme waste companies create. Through the repetition of shapes, the unclear piles of rubbish unite to emphasise the mass consumption of product waste, whilst the universal linear shapes in black and white symbolise how due to our consumerist behaviours, we have lost sight of the damage to our environments. Ramifications of Man-kind invites the audience to consider their personal experience with packaging waste and construct individual interpretations subject to their damage of our natural world.
ARTWORK PROCESS
Inspired by Chris Jordan and Justin Lui the series of digital manipulations resemble animals and consumer products using abstract line and silhouettes of product waste. Plastic wrappings and rubbish were used to construct digital images of animals as the repetition of shapes and products emphasize the excessive waste that is consumed by humans. Bright recognisable colours of brands emphasise the unsustainable waste companies create, representing how products become more difficult to recycle and reuse over time. Recognisable shapes of products such as drink bottles, chip boxes, coffee cups etc. allows us to recognise that the most common waste comes from
