ARTIST STATEMENT
This series positions the audience to feel judged from the gazes of the four subjects, simulating the emotional trauma of social anxiety. Societal pressure is expressed through the brooding, disappointed, weary and saddened expressions exacerbated by the piercing stares. The contrast between the incomplete two-dimensional sketch and the realistic eyes creates a sense of depth; the photorealistic acrylic of the eyes is redolent of Egon Schiele’s portraits.
