ARTIST STATEMENT
You have to choose what you want to be in this world. Is it the mouth? The spine? The eyes? The chest? The hands. I want to be the hands.
I want to be the Hands explores the knowledge that dreams grant us, and the power that comes through change. It represents the naivety and the rage we experience during the path of adolescence, and the strength and power we choose to keep hidden. The metaphor of the human body and its parts, set in these dream-like sequences, explore change; intimately and aesthetically; an emotional metamorphosis of personal history.
ARTWORK PROCESS
Originally a composition of poems and fleeting emotions, I needed to find a way to further express my feelings. Film; the art of a moving picture, came more naturally to me. Using a dream-like sequence, I could lay out emotions, and rearrange them; a body of work with more depth, more intrigue. I tried to implement a role with hands. My own developing narrative. My own metaphor to work around and grow from. I took inspiration from artists and directors: McMillan, Piccinini and Guadagnino. Intricately placed shots and references to hands within Guadagnino’s Suspiria, resonated with me.
