ARTIST STATEMENT
What defines our shared experience—our fleeting physical forms or the idea of common humanity? Bodies are tangible things, skin and bone, deteriorating day by day. Softly abstract hands reach for stars representing our inexhaustible desire to make sense of the momentary nature of life. Maybe the beauty of human experience lies in the struggle to pick up the scattered remains of identity and create something that can support our weight fleetingly. There is beauty in evanescent moments, our connections and daily life. We always search inwards for some sense of self, identity and home, within memory, culture, childhood.
ARTWORK PROCESS
Inspired by Bart Hess, I experimented with various media, explored various motifs about hands and the actions and emotions of hands, using PhotoShop. I exploited various techniques such as blurring to create a deceiving ‘soft and serene’ effect despite the work itself being red, fleshy and visceral.
