ARTIST STATEMENT
The fundamental nature of the universe does not change over time. This abstract surrealism inspired series explores a personal interpretation of human connection and the permanence of space that brings humans together across time. Repeated constellations and lines suggest multiple paths, inspiring story-telling to connect one’s own interpretation of the universe. Like the universe, we are an infinite stream of sensations and memories – each different to the other. Tatsuo Miyajima’s quote: “keep changing, connect with everything, and continue forever,” resonates within my work and can encourage reflection on timeless, universal connection.
ARTWORK PROCESS
Painting onto multiple canvas, I have combined physical work and minor experimentations through Adobe Photoshop, using the palimpsest technique (reusing and altering the original) to represent the cycle and continuation of life. As I had many experiments and forms of media to use, the series became a surreal and busy collage. I have experimented with opacity to create these layers and manipulated the original imagery through cropping, shrinking, blurring or digitally extending the image. After creating the still images, they were placed into Adobe After Effects where I overlayed audio of friends and family’s voices for diverse, individual perspectives.
