Hide & Seek, is a digital stop-motion animation with overlayed sound that plays for 0.32 seconds.

ARTIST STATEMENT

‘I finally came to consider colours as forces, to be assembled as inspiration dictates.’ Colours spark a variety of emotions that are stemmed from biological conditioning and are intricately linked with human behaviour. Hide & Seek connects the artist and the audience through animation technology, which is broadly influenced by the late work of Henri Matisse and his passion for colour and collage. Hide & Seek is a journey of self-discovery that involves the effect that colour has towards emotion and one’s identity that entangles the concept of change and empowerment through movement, colour and sound.

ARTWORK PROCESS

The inspiration behind Hide & Seek came from the artworks of Henri Matisse and his fascination with colour. The software Procreate was used to develop this stop-motion animation. Each sequence was hand-drawn and overlayed at 12 frames per second resulting in 384 individual frames. Geometrical shapes float in negative space when a purple figure appears. It moves through the various shapes with ease, until it hits a sharp edge changing colour, shape and sound. The various colour changes represent different emotions such as, purple for courage, red for anger, blue for calmness and yellow for happiness.
