ARTIST STATEMENT
As devastating bushfire disasters kill millions of mammals on Australian land, our precious wildlife grows more vulnerable. The worsening climate crisis in Australia indicates that the strength and frequency of extreme wildfires will continue to spread in the near future, endangering our limited wildlife. The severity of these wildfires has informed my artistic decisions, influencing my focus on showcasing how they adapt and eat at our fearful wildlife.
ARTWORK PROCESS
The initial model-making process required pen tracing on black card paper to help shape trees and koalas. Wires were edged to shape each cutout and were glued onto their rears. The puppeteering of the koalas also used these wires together with badge base holders to carry legs and head pieces. Having bought a projector and started producing music, experimentation with technologies began. After filming, editing footage, and finishing music and sound design, I sought the means to display my final work on a larger scale. Upon visiting a local theatre, I experimented with my projection, complementing the shadow puppetry.
