Have a Meal With Me Installation
A dinner table of four ceramic place settings each representing a different theme.

ARTIST STATEMENT

A simple meal holds the potential to tell a story. My work explores how art and storytelling act as a conduit for interpersonal connection in the contemporary and personal contexts of a meal and those involved. I took inspiration from Judy Chicago’s Dinner Party and the work of Isabel and Alfredo Aquilizan. Have A Meal With Me draws on Aquilizan's use of objects and images imbuing stories and connections to tell a larger story. My artwork encourages audiences to consider the commonality between each set of dinnerware, further encouraging people to connect with the world around them through everyday things.

ARTWORK PROCESS

Slip cast earthenware ceramic plates and bowls hand painted with various underglaze, glaze and surface techniques to create four individual place settings. The images of each set were carefully considered to reflect the meeting of different people throughout time and cultures, as well as their coming together as a common people sharing a simple meal.
