ARTIST STATEMENT
My artwork titled “Beautiful Slumber” explores the beauty of nature, untouched by humans' influence or interference and the ability for healing over time if given the chance. Inspired by Capetown Artist, Daniel Popper and his collection of nature and life, his work “Umi” appraises the connection between nature with our responsibility to create and nurture life. My artwork connects from a personal and contemporary context and challenges the human interaction and subsequent damage that affects the ecosystem. Therefore, with healthier ecosystems the healthier our planet is, without our intervention Mother Nature will thrive and remain the governess of beauty for all time.
ARTWORK PROCESS
With my artwork, I wanted to represent nature beautifully with the hidden intention of human influence
playing a crucial but negative role on our planet. This idea lead to the desire of using recycled plastic
materials to give the irony of how beautiful nature and life are when we in fact are killing our planet with
our influence and products. Sleeping Mother Nature was then later incorporated to represent the beauty
of nature and the significance of life and what we hold in our hands; hence the blooming flowers that
represent thriving life.
