Leaflets Painting
Original oil painting on 3 x A4 sized sheets of dried tree leaves

ARTIST STATEMENT

The artwork Leaflets provides an alternate approach to the focus of deforestation that has occurred in Queensland in the last 3 years. The Wilderness Society found that 73% of all deforestation and land clearing in Queensland is linked to beef production and is the largest reason for land clearing in South East QLD since the 1970s (WS, 2022). The audience is to consider the leaflets, that educate through repurposed leaf litter, forming an ephemeral artwork juxtaposed with packaged beef oil paintings, reminding the consumers of their role in environmental issues.

ARTWORK PROCESS

By using the leaves as the canvas for the meat oil paintings. The oil paintings are of photos of packaged meat that I took from purchases at my local supermarket. I collected leaves from a bushland and use baking paper to iron them flat. I baked them in the oven to dry them out, ironed them and then painted directly onto the leaves.
