ARTIST STATEMENT
My artwork is a depiction of a fictional god of death. Tempau Sayvum, although the collector of the damned, has no predisposition for the souls he ferries. As god of time he knows that all people die eventually, all things fade away, all kingdoms fall and will treat you no higher or lesser than any other. His character has symbolism and loose inspiration from a variety of historical settings and cultures. I chose to keep his source of inspiration ambiguous so that the viewer has no predisposition to his role. I painted both artworks in a style reminiscent of “Moebius”.
ARTWORK PROCESS
Since this project began as an investigation into passion's connection with an artist's ability to create vast amounts of work with the same genre, style or method, I have looked over my own obsessions in art, looked at the obsessions of others and gained new interests in the process. Through this I have explored the standards and clichés of God hierarchy systems in modern and historical settings and have decided what to keep and what to subvert.
