Our lives are a continuous story, and our culture the paper on which we write. The themes of cultural identity, immigration, and displacement are frequently explored in my work. Having immigrated from the Philippines to Australia I felt the dislocation and discord that many outsiders do. I grappled with culture and self as I reshaped my identity, and continue to, whilst in a country that is free and full of possibilities. This work is steeped in Filipino culture and my story of struggle to maintain a connection to it and find who I am.
