ARTIST STATEMENT
Furthering my body of work, an instillation was created, allowing engagement from the audience in an alternate approach. The audience must walk 360 degrees around artwork to fully observe, allowing deeper meaning to be perceived through an interactive way. Contemporary and alternate mediums were used. Natural and polluted items were gathered from an isolated beach, combined in resin. The use of colour, texture, form, contrast and emphasis create enriched non-literal meaning. Demonstrating beauty loss due to humans’ impact with pollution. The work challenges how humans’ negative impact on nature, results in negative consequences - represented by the loss of beauty in the natural environment.
ARTWORK PROCESS
Natural and plastic items from beach, combined in resin. Natural and polluted items were gathered from an isolated beach, combined in resin. Resin sculptures are in the shape of plastic containers, this iconic shape can be found along our coastline as myriads of containers wash up on our beaches. The resin sculptures are intertwined in shell decorated driftwood, this further exemplifies the plastic that drifts on beaches each year.
