Fabric Waves Painting
Textured painting mixed with fabric and knitted wool. Composed to represent waves. Audience to engage with touch.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Society negatively impacts the environment with waste products. ‘Fabric Waves’ focuses on symbolic representation of the toxic fabrics being discarded and how they pollute the natural beauty of the environment. Through not recycling and not wasting effectively, ecosystems like the ocean are impacted. The textured waves are interactive allowing the audience to better understand their impact on the natural world. The red fabric that flows through each panel is symbolic of the destruction fabric waste causes over time. I hope to draw attention to the issues surrounding waste into the ocean.

ARTWORK PROCESS

Painted fabric layered in five stages. Each layer utilising different stitching, technique, or colour symbolism. Ink used to deepen textures of the work. PVA glue used to harden the fabrics to allow the audience to engage with the textures.
