ARTIST STATEMENT
The Sound of the Creek and the Shapes in the Clouds was intended to abstractly depict a natural landscape from a stimulus photo. I aimed to represent the image using colour and sound waves. These concepts were inspired by my two key artists who use sound and colour to create meaning. My final artwork’s features the concept of sound waves to represent a different aspect of the landscape, specifically the creek. The sound waves utilise a different medium and technique in formal context, and the colours are taken directly from the stimulus photo and were used to identify the artwork as a landscape.
ARTWORK PROCESS
Inspired by Louisa Bufardeci's concept of sound waves, and Nike Savvas' use of colour to abstractly portray a landscape, I created my own representation of a landscape using my chosen stimulus photo. The photo is of a rural Australian landscape featuring a creek. The idea for my final artwork evolved multiple times beyond my first experiments. My experiments explored these similar ideas but some of them tangent off into concepts of music and use different mediums. In the end I focused more on how colour and medium can be manipulated to represent a place.
