Not Perfect Enough Drawing
A mixed media drawing that explores female stereotypes and the influence society has on women.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My watercolour and coloured pencil piece named, Not Perfect Enough, focuses on the 1950s social expectations for women. As blue male hands appear on three sides of the screen to touch up the pink-themed woman's makeup, she stares blankly out at the audience. She may appear ideal because she is blonde, slim, and extensively covered in makeup, but she still has surgical lines all over her body and face. Barbara Kruger influenced me to concentrate on the detrimental effects of gender and how they have affected society's expectations of women.

ARTWORK PROCESS

I have used watercolour, coloured pencils and paint pens to create a realistic representation of a woman. The blue hands and surgery lines represent the influence that society has on women in society to be perfect.
