Macabre Installation
Interactive video Installation projected onto a spherical ball

ARTIST STATEMENT

Macabre is a video installation projected onto a sphere. The work aims to communicate thoughts and feelings about human emotion and challenges the notion that the eye is a window to the soul. The cyclops symbolises the idea of surveillance in the digital era while simultaneously disclosing inner thoughts. Multiple foci include a warped face and moving clock challenges fixed cosmic and refers to Salvador Dali’s works. The chaotic movement of the installation is juxtaposed with mysterious sounds to enhance the changing nature and complex nature of human emotion.

ARTWORK PROCESS

Macabre isolates raw human emotions by manipulating motion and figurative imagery. A motif of a sorrowful faces and a moving clock, drawn with harsh lines on canvas using compressed charcoal, and manipulated in Photoshop and Motion Leap communicates the grief and anger people experience about missed opportunities when time is not harnessed. Macabre further dramatized through video editing and the addition of audio to further communicate meaning. I emphasised fastidious realism by projecting the video onto an exercise ball in the installation space. The interactivity with audience and the darkness works to emphasise the organic fluidity of human emotion.
