To Live Sculpture
Clay vessels in various sizes and shapes, some glazed connected by red string and ribbon

ARTIST STATEMENT

"What is the meaning of life?” is a question that has played on my mind a lot in the past few years. From my limited time on this Earth I have come to the conclusion that life gains meaning through the connections you make with people, whether they be your friends, family or strangers. 'To Live' explores how connections can make your life more fulfilling. The large bubbly clay vessels are connected to many of the other vessels through yarn, ribbon or string which represents our connections to others. The vessels represent life, the larger organic vases represent a fulfilled life enhanced by many connections.

ARTWORK PROCESS

The student created a range of clay vessels, many started on the wheel. She then hand carved and built organic shapes, and made holes or crevices in them to allow for the red string or ribbon that was later added to join them.
