ARTIST STATEMENT
My art seeks to answer, "how can I manipulate the relationship between the audience and their surrounding atmosphere to facilitate audience reaction?" This is explored by considering the gallery environment, audience participation, and how artworks make an audience feel. Oil pastel works explore familiar faces but through distortion processes challenge the viewer to perceive what is 'off' or suspiciously familiar about the work. Participatory works use venetian blinds, where six different emotions depicted allowed the audience to adjust the distortion effect to their liking. My final sculptural work affected the audiences' atmosphere by providing a third dimension, responding to the concept of the round.
ARTWORK PROCESS
For my artworks I used a combination of distortion techniques using oil pastels and photography in which were presented on a range of surfaces including my sculpture called "curves" which was further distorted through projection.
