Greed Mixed media: drawing and sculpture
Watercolour drawing of a rabbit displayed behind a series of small ceramic pomegranate.

ARTIST STATEMENT

'Greed' is an emotion exclusive to the human creature. We are one of two species that take more than what our environment can provide, the other being a virus. We tend to indulge our desire to consume, discarding what we no longer want, leaving things to rot and decay. Like the innocence of this hare engulfed in fungus, we are rotting from the inside out and spoiling our souls. This piece is a metaphor for consumption and represents our inner corruption. Would we be more aware of how greed affects us if it were a physical external rot?

ARTWORK PROCESS

Jordan used Adobe Photoshop to juxtapose a number of images on top of each other to form a collage, which she then used as a reference for her watercolour drawing. She also made and glazed a series of ceramic squashed and rotting pomegranate.
