The Emotions of Shades and Tints Costume Design
The model (whites skin with black painted lines) wears a black painted canvas top with white stitching.

ARTIST STATEMENT

The material of the costume is recycled black painted canvas, to symbolise how hard depression is. The costume represents how we shield ourselves from others during emotional difficulties. It also shows that although emotions are felt on the inside they can also cover us and show on the outside. Painting the model mostly white with the sketched black lines, shows how it is easy for the depressive emotion to take control and how fragile our positive human emotions are.

ARTWORK PROCESS

The material of the vest, is made of recycled canvas, painted with black acrylic paint. It is hand stitched in white thread. Other media include eyelits, ribbon, and aluminum wire. The model (originally human female) is a maniquin. The human model was painted with white body paint and black lines were marked onto the surface of her skin to contrast with the black costume design.
