Afterlife of Trixie Cow skull, acrylic paint and gem stones
A golden cow skull adorned with mixed media and paint

ARTIST STATEMENT

My artwork was inspired by how society make animal’s death glorified with beauty and making profit. By using alternate approach of exploiting traditional materials and techniques in new or unexpected ways, I used a cow skull with acrylic and spray paint in conjunction with mixed mediums and my own imagination to create an artwork that explores the beef cow, Trixie’s life after death. Throughout my own life experiences, I have been involved with deaths and the profits surrounding them. I opted to look through society’s perspective in which is where I saw the beauty in the beast’s death.

ARTWORK PROCESS

I was initially inspired by the idea of how we treat cattle after death and the profit we make from their flesh and bodies. The skull was used to represent the death of an animal and was spray painted gold to show wealth. I then dotted acrylic paint and glued gem stones on to represent adornment and beauty though death.
