ARTIST STATEMENT
The Crack of Time was created using acrylic paint to show a representation of the Dreamtime story, ‘How the sun was made.’ An ombre of yellow and white was used as the background to display the awakening of the sun. The foreground features an emu egg that cracked, revealing the sun. The crack is located on the bottom of the egg to symbolise the growing anger of the Brolga after throwing the Emu's egg. The cracks contain light which can be seen squeezing out of the cracks in the egg, giving the Earth sunlight.
ARTWORK PROCESS
Dot painting was used around the artwork to show a connection to the Indigenous Australian culture and the dreamtime story. The shape of the dots has been manipulated to express the large amount of light that the egg produced, once it was dropped releasing the sun.
