ARTIST STATEMENT

Artist statement My painting “Urlampe home” depicts my grandfather’s property, a community station in the N.T. This painting is drawn from my memory of homeland and knowledge of country. I have used the colourful palette of the many hues from this country. Focussing on the sky and clouds to evoke a dreamlike quality which tells the story of the beauty that lives in my memory. The road to this place beckons the viewer to a magical undiscovered place. ARTWORK PROCESS

Painting Process The first step of my painting was to investigate the colours, shapes, textures and the meanings behind my grandfather’s place. I went out into the land and found the places that had special meaning to me. My work is inspired by Scott Naismith’s paintings, the way he uses colour without fear and his combination of abstract and realism, his brush strokes and colours to create in-depth meaningful paintings. Also inspired by Aboriginal singer Emily Wurramara’s song Black Smoke about finding your belonging and being in a place where you feel connected to your soul, and
