Nature in the Palm of our Hands Painting
Acrylic paint, ink, pearl essence and resin on wooden board

ARTIST STATEMENT

My artwork, Nature in the Palm of our Hands, is inspired by the three-day trip to Blackwater, which made me reflect on the relationship that humans have with nature. My focus centers on human greed and consumption and the way that humans abuse natural resources without nurturing it in return. The use of resin as honey is important in symbolising an overconsumption of natural materials. The bright colours of the honey, flower and bee symbolise life and contrast with the monotone hands holding it, showing the negative impact of humans. It also relates to the contemporary issues of bees dying.

ARTWORK PROCESS

I used acrylic paint on board with a combination of tools including paint brushes, paddle pops and hands. I poured ink, pearl essence and resin onto the board, tilted diagonally to create my rivers of resin (honey).
