ARTIST STATEMENT
Different individuals fear and express diverse emotions towards living and non-living things which can be a fascinating topic when it comes to an artwork. I decided to draw a coloured pencil portrait of my pet snake to see how other people viewed it. The artwork was completed on an A1 piece of paper to create an intimidating size in when viewed.
ARTWORK PROCESS
The initial inspiration for this piece came from seeing peoples reactions to animals that are often associated with negative feelings. I knew I wanted the artwork to be big, so the audience is forced to confront the animal. I chose my own snake for the model of this artwork as he often elicits a negative reaction from people when they meet him. This artwork was created by sketching the design onto the paper and slowly layering prisma pencils to build up the details of the work.
