Lace Henge Sculpture
Eight crochet lace rings inspired by animal architecture with a focus on the detailed structures weaved by Silkhenge spiders.

ARTIST STATEMENT

This artwork is inspired by animal architecture and focuses on drawing attention to the details of Silkhenge spider structures. This is a spider that weaves a border around its eggs for protection. Taking from the form of the hedge-like structure, this artwork uses lacework to create eight ornately bordered henges. The henges made are displayed to reflect the structure of a silkhenge, seven henges form a border around a middle henge. The lace was made using crochet, a human weaving techniques that reflects the weaving process of a spider.

ARTWORK PROCESS

This artwork uses lacework to create the ornate bordered henges. The lace was made using crochet, a human weaving techniques that reflects the weaving process of a spider. Lighting is also an important part of the sculpture, the different angled lights used to cast shadows of the lace onto the wall behind.
