Handle with Care Installation

ARTIST STATEMENT

Handle with Care (2022) explores strangled connection between humans and nature, that although we’re creatures of nature – sharing parallels between our compositions – we continue to treat our Earth with little care. Brought to life with a projection, my artwork conveys the irony of creating plant-life out of the very thing destroying it – creating an artificial sliver of greenery contained within a box labelled: “Handle with Care”. The label also evokes a sense of self-reflection. How exactly have you been treating our planet? – Is the artificial nature of these plants the aftermath of your, or our actions as a whole?

ARTWORK PROCESS

Ripped up sides convey that our environment is not being handled with care – contrary to what the symbol represents. “Handle with care” symbol – implying to handle the contents of the box with care, alluding to the environment and how we must start handling it with care instead of discarding reusable resources so easily. Also alludes to a vision of a future if we were to continue harming our environment, reinforced by projecting mere videos as evidence to a world once full of life.
