Faces only we see Sculpture
The way I see imperfection and how society views them as bad or unexpectable

ARTIST STATEMENT

The world has been seen to have a certain way you have to look. The idea of imperfection has been thrown around society for a long time and is seen as a bad thing in most parts. This is because of the corrupt body images we see through media such as TV, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok and more. My artwork “Face Only We See” is based around the unrealistic and unreachable standards we see today. I have placed “imperfections” on the faces to show that they are not ugly but beautiful. Our world views imperfections and faults as bad let’s change.

ARTWORK PROCESS

The pieces were made using white stone ware clay and molded into a three-dimensional portrait. After doing so I chose the imperfection I was going to use and found a reference photograph. The colours I chose were based on the mood I was feeling that day and if I had multiple feelings, I used those colours on multiple faces.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Kiara Plunkett

Hi my name is Kiara My life has had alot of ups and down but the one thing that made me happy was being able to create arework that creates dialogy with the audience. Ceramics and scultpure is my favorite medium but painting in acylics and water colour is always loved aswell. My passion has always stood with the ideas that imperfections are bad but im my eyes "faults" or "imperfections" are beautiful no matter what it is. People think their is one look in society but they need to understand there are thousands and that is not bad.
