ARTIST STATEMENT
My Lake Dwellings is a 3D architectural model, crafted between the concept and realization that landscape will change the way structural buildings are designed and constructed. Climate change is a major concern, it causes declines in air and water quality and alters the frequency or intensity of extreme weather events. My Lake Dwellings is inspired by the major floods in Australia that have left thousands of homes uninhabitable and created climate refugees. The purpose of this artwork is a call to action to architectural designers in hopes to build houses with external factors in mind for the future floods.
ARTWORK PROCESS
The houses in My Lake Dwellings were constructed using sustainable natural materials that were found across the school grounds. They were also designed to be well ventilated to maintain good indoor air quality. The raised design by adding a ladder, allows the houses to be placed above water, which symbolises that the houses are flood resistant.
