ARTIST STATEMENT
Though we may never be able to travel into the past nor stop the flow of time, memories provide a re-viewable fragment of time. My digital series of artworks explore and display disjointed fragments of memories that are prominent among a sea of others. Each artwork portrays myself, a 17-year-old student completing my final year of high school. As the first two portraits were taken by others whether with my knowledge or not, a full, clean, image of my face is visible. As the final portrait was an image taken by myself, I covered my face with a detailed censor bar.
ARTWORK PROCESS
When completing this artwork, I wanted to find imagery that represented the idea behind a ‘Kodak moment'. This can be simply defined as a moment so special/beautiful/incredible that it was suitable to be photographed to keep as a physical, revisit-able, memory. With the advancements in modern technology, the phrase and idea of a ‘Kodak Moment’ has become nullified by the fast-paced production and consumption of media. However, my focus during creation was more pointed towards the prominent imperfect memories captured prominently by others with these modern forms of picture production.
