Drowning Painting
This is a two-part series of painted portraits using acrylic on canvas.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Our expressions on our face convey significant, yet concealed messages. Inspired by the sincere facial expressions portraits portray, my intentions to formulate sympathy and understanding from the audience are brought to life by the two conspicuous 'drowning' people. Open to multiple interpretations, these two artworks at first glance, may be incomprehensible, however the intended meaning reveals itself as you dig deeper and allow your imagination to control the way it makes you feel.

ARTWORK PROCESS

I chose to represent both a male and female portrait in this series to prove to my audience that both genders can experience negative emotions and feelings. During the process of this artwork, I used strong line work to create a realistic underwater scene and focused on lighting, shading and tone. I concentrated significantly on the facial expressions that the portraits portray because the expression on the face says a lot about what the person is going through.
