ARTIST STATEMENT

Time is something that is always changing and moving. It seems to fly past quickly on some days or feel like every minute takes an hour on others.  My artmaking hopes to capture this, freezing it into a still photograph. The artwork ‘Light Trails’ is a contemporary display consisting of long exposure photographs printed on clear acrylic sheets which will be backlit and displayed in a dark room. The backlit acrylic sheets will produce a glowing effect. While viewing the display, the audience will feel a sense of time passing; it will be subjective whether they see time moving quickly, slowly, or not at all.

ARTWORK PROCESS

I made these light paintings with long exposure photography at night. I wrapped an LED light strip around a bar to get this effect.  Each photo took 15sec to 2mins to create. The idea of long exposure photography is to capture time in a still photo. The long exposure photos show streaks and blurs of moving objects with still objects remaining that way. The image is still yet you can still see the movement of the light.
