To Death Sculpture
Timber structure with dried flowers and frozen ice torso

ARTIST STATEMENT

6 years, 345 days, 10 hours, 47 minutes, and 50 seconds. The earth has a deadline, and society is leading her To Death. I empathise with the screams of the earth for help as both women and nature have been treated as a means to an end by the patriarchy. Both commodified, exploited and moulded to fit society’s wants. Women and nature are deemed a cognitive function in a system built on man’s fragile ego. A system that thrives on and profits from a woman’s self-deprecation. We have just 6 years to dismantle a system that uses control and power for profit.

ARTWORK PROCESS

I used pine wood, nails, liquid nails, Musou black paint and dried flowers to create the 160 x 80cm sculpture; and used a mannequin torso filled with water and frozen to create the ice torso. The torso is designed to slowly melt throughout the exhibition.
