ARTIST STATEMENT
My deep connection with the location of Boreen Point brought with it a desire and a need to share that feeling. Snapshot of a Journey is a series of photographic self-portraits inspired by contemporary artist, Kate Mitchell. I manipulated portrait photography and captured the strongest emotions I felt throughout my journey along Lake Cootharaba foreshore. Each ‘snapshot’ is composed using the colour based on the idea that either inherently, or throughout a lifetime, the human brain associates specific colours with specific emotions.
ARTWORK PROCESS
The planning process involved breaking down the shot into three key points: emotion/colour, action/prop and backdrop. After selecting each of these aspects, a series of test shots were taken to adjust for lighting and contrast. This process was repeated for each image, allowing me to control every aspect and perfect the emotion I wanted to share with an audience.
