Vonda Installation
A large mixed media installation of eco prints, intaglio, collage and mark making, a portrait of my mother.

ARTIST STATEMENT

A garden grown and nurtured by life’s experiences,..... Intuitively the beauty and colour of nature provoked a deeply emotive response that centered around my mother’s life story as a focus. Working in mixed media on small eco printed segments, I built layers of floral symbolism to communicate the complex layering of my mother’s narrative. Etchings, pastels, acrylics, and inks combined to create a complicated largescale installation of drawings, paintings and prints metaphorically layered, obscured and buried. Additionally, I adopted the collage techniques of artist Nicola Moss to highlight abstracted varieties of flora and fauna that aligned with this strong woman's story.

ARTWORK PROCESS

I created the artwork through intense experimentation of printmaking and collage processes. These include eco printing, intaglio printing, stitching and mark making using charcoal, pastels, acrylics and inks. This combined to create a complicated installation of drawings, paintings and prints layered, obscured and buried. These elements allowed for a largescale spread across the gallery aiding in the audience’s literal interpretation through a more profound and provocative interaction, as they consider the entirety of the piece before considering each element individually. The diversity of mark making is integral to the layered complex narrative that is being communicated.
