ARTIST STATEMENT

We're in a giant car heading towards a brick wall and everyone's arguing over where they're going to sit. (David Suzuki) The Earth feels like it is on a collision course, extinction rebellion, natural disasters; who's going to save us? Yet, there is hope, the Earth has regenerated in the past, rebirth is possible. The future is up to us, the next generation, to care for the Earth as if it is our own child, it is a fragile new life, cradled in our hands.

ARTWORK PROCESS

To create this piece, I utilised many of the fundamentals of art, including; shadows and lighting, composition, gesture sketching to properly portray emotion, and using colour association within the hair to subtly link the child to the Earth. To complete this artwork I used the app Procreate, and while there is a common assumption that digital art is inherently easier than other art forms due to being powered by a computer, this is a false assumption. Digital art requires an entirely separate skill set that demands mastery over many different tools.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Lawson Green

I am Lawson Green, I study Visual Art. I'm hoping to become an Art teacher when I complete my high school studies. My passion is digital art and I study Design to complement this field of interest. My artwork follows my interest of social causes and the protest movement, Extinction Rebellion inspired this artwork. I have also spent some time animating for a small release film and it is an area of my visual arts practice that excites me. I look forward to exploring my art making into the future.
