ARTIST STATEMENT
Human youths present a humbling reminder to the world that, though we perceive ourselves as grand creatures, we truly are animals. This backward evolution relies on the amygdala during the brain’s development, a small cluster of cells ruling our emotions, aggression, impulses, and instinctive behaviour, effectively rendering us little more than our cavemen ancestors and their animal companions. “Modern Caveman” explores how this link is traced back to cave ancestors by using alternative lens to build upon ancient cave art through contemporary graffiti. This shows, even after a millennium, how little we’ve changed. As teenagers, we are nothing if not modern cavemen.
