ARTIST STATEMENT
Imagine everything that you have ever remembered slipping away, flying off without you even realising it. Memories are so important in understanding who we are and who we are yet to be. Like a parasite to its prey, dementia sucks the memories from a person. When our connection to memory is threatened, our identity, relationships and understandings are impacted. I recently asked a widow about her husband’s battle with dementia. She heartbreakingly described it as “though no one is home”. My work does not aim to pretend that I personally understand the terrible impact of dementia, but merely to raise awareness and understanding.
