ARTIST STATEMENT
In the circle of life, everything must end. Or does it? The transition from life to death is inherently intertwined with fear, making us question the concept of rebirth… a possible renewed existence. My art work explores rebirth and the uncertain journey that lays beyond death, leaving room for the audience to reflect on life experiences in present time. It portrays the voyage of human rebirth through four figures; ultimately traveling through this universe and dimension. The continuation of shapes symbolising how a person will forever carry on. The lines are a compass; a navigator for the journey ahead.
ARTWORK PROCESS
A contemporary cubist style mixed media piece produced through repetition of irregular shapes that have been shaded using a gradation of charcoal and acrylic paint. The process begins with a single line drawing done by closing the eyes and letting the hand create, resulting in unique irregular shapes which are then shaded with charcoal to give dimensionality. Black acrylic paint intensifies darker areas.
