'Labelled' Installation
Black and white photos with glass and clay objects.

ARTIST STATEMENT

They say people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. With my focus on how we are a community, a society that is a collective group yet sometimes we end up trapped by our own lives. We all may be a collective, a society united under a single symbol, leader or heritage but in the end, we are all individuals. Though we are all people we find ways to categorise each other, put each other in boxes, and alienate each other. Label each other and judge the way we react. It is an experience that every young person experiences, I know I have.

ARTWORK PROCESS

A series of black and white images were taken and manipulated to create a series of portraits of young adults in their emerging years with labels written across their face. A number of clay figures were created to be 'trapped' in the glass jars and having a range of emotional responses. The installation includes a series of photographs, clay figures and found glass objects.
