ARTIST STATEMENT

Through features of colour, focal point and painting techniques I explored themes of juxtaposition: life and death, tranquillity and chaos. I wanted to explore these themes to show the difference between the two subjects but also to show that when they are placed within each other, neither overpowers the other. Harmony is created. Two features, flowers, representing life, skeleton, representing death, are used to explore my theme. This painting is intended to be placed in the school library, I felt this was an appropriate place as it is an imaginative work open to many interpretations.

ARTWORK PROCESS

The board was first primed then a solid layer of light blue was applied. Using a soft textured brush the clouds were applied using a mixture of circular and horizontal brush strokes. The skeleton was then sketched onto the board using white charcoal then filled in with appropriate values using a small textured brush the foliage was added using a stippling technique, using lighter and darker shades to add depth and dimension. A range of spring colours were then selected and added using the same technique to represent flowers.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Danielle Muchow

As a young emerging artist, my greatest goal is to inspire others with my greatest tool - my imagination. Texture and colour have always intrigued. Currently I am working in various mediums, including textiles and the human body to express individuality and communicate my perspective on the world. Atmosphere is created not only through my exploration of colour but also through large scale monochromatic works. Drawing has always been the foundation of my works and translating ideas through the development process has been tremendously rewarding on a personal scale.
