ARTIST STATEMENT
Toowoomba State High School 1920 – 2022 is a graphite drawing triptych responding to the idea of preservation of memory and change over time. My school has changed physically over its 102 years yet the memories and experiences live and breathe within the walls and are worth protecting. The contemporary evolution of the schools physical structure is evident through depictions of buildings from 1920, 1965 and 2022. Regardless of when you attended the school, these drawings serve as visual reminders of the formative years in our lives.
ARTWORK PROCESS
Historical photos of Toowoomba State High School buildings were obtained and captured by the student. The photos were used as reference images for the graphite drawings of the buildings onto the canvases. The first canvas depicts a building from 1920. The second canvas is a building from 1965 and the third canvas is from 2022.
