ARTIST STATEMENT
Terrestrial explores alchemy and change through the imperfect relationship man has with nature in a contemporary and personal context. Aerial images around Mackay were used as inspiration for the images. All life is connected and must be protected. Circular canvases were chosen to symbolise different versions of Earth. Circles also denote all cyclic movement. Colours signify different aspects of our natural world. The contrast of light and dark foreshadows the darkness that will take over if we do not change our environmental ways.
ARTWORK PROCESS
Terrestial was created by painting with spray paint onto multiple circular canvases. Manifold layers were generated using different nature colours in both oil and waterbased paint to create a nature inspired composition. The work was inspired by aerial reference photos taken in my hometown Mackay and the surrounding areas. Finally the canvases were arranged and overlapped on a black painted board.
