ARTIST STATEMENT
‘Love from, Grace’ communicates an alternate positive and nostalgic pathway through an installation and postcard format, reflecting a contemporary context via digital manipulation and aesthetic knowledge of Australian culture. The intended audience experience is to travel back into a nostalgic state they once had growing up in Australia, and for them to realize how the once common postcard form of communication holds a valued place in these nostalgic memories.
ARTWORK PROCESS
I experimented through my alternate digital media and deliberately played around with different appropriated font styles for the welcoming phrase, different iconic Australian landmarks and the classic postcard borders to help convey that the artwork is a postcard.
Using these iconic cultural symbols creates a cultural context within the artwork and it helps create a memory for the audience as they can think on the times they went to these iconic Australian places or similar
I implemented a divergent link of memory and nostalgia with the audience by appropriating the bolded, 3D bubbly letters for the postcard greeting phrases.
