Three Faces of Self Sculpture
3D piece.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Humans often hide their identity by constructing an acceptable persona. Inspired by the Japanese ‘3 faces’ proverb, ‘Three Faces of Self’ is constructed from three-dimensional heads that refer to a particular ‘face’. The first face is collaged with prints of people who have impacted us, symbolising how we shape a perfect persona of ourselves based on others' acceptance. Cracks of paint on the second face suggest the breakdown of our perfect image. Each crack portrays our more natural self, however, there is more underneath this layer. The naked figure, the third face, represents our vulnerability and imperfections that are hidden from everyone.

ARTWORK PROCESS

Constructed from paper mache masks, clay, paint, mini printed photos (photomontage process), string, glue, crackle medium, paper, pot, soil, coco fibre, fake grass, leaves, magazines
