ARTIST STATEMENT
‘Grayscale’ explores ways in which the element of ‘colour’ is specifically manipulated to convey a deeper meaning, The focus of this artwork emphasizes the notion that emotions can be portrayed through colour, but also through the absence of colour. Furthermore, the intent behind this painting is to evoke an emotional response from the audience based on their prior understanding of colour and the symbolic representations that certain colours can convey. This work differentiates from my initial focus as colour had previously been displayed in abundance to exhibit the emotions of the subject matter featured in the artwork, whereas in this work, the absence of colour
ARTWORK PROCESS
Acrylic paint was applied to the surface using a range of painting techniques including blending to portray a sense of realism in the faces of the subject matter/s. The background was deliberately left white to emphasize the subject matter which has been placed in the foreground.
