ARTIST STATEMENT

“Carbon Copy” is investigated through the human form and the science behind the body, as a basis for exploring true connection between humans. This investigation found that every living thing contains carbon. My manipulation of fire as an uncontrollable force led to my resolved interpretation of the natural carbon life and death cycle. This artwork invites the audience to reflect on their own biology and their connection to the world around them. I want to connect the viewer to the artwork as much as they connect to other people.

ARTWORK PROCESS

I wanted to explore my own self and peers from a scientific point of view. Researching of James Eddy and Céleste Boursier-Mougenot artwork analysis affected the final product through their alternate methods and display. I have used combined display for ease of understanding for the audience. I put the video on a loop so the audience could understand better that it was about the same human, going through the same process and containing the same things inside. It shows the continual loop of living and dying. I have used charcoal as a medium to reflect my focus of carbon.
