ARTIST STATEMENT
‘Peregrination’ is a digital work highlighting the consequences of stigmatisation. Stigma is dually represented metaphorically as the sensitive tip of a flower and a mark of disgrace. A playdough snake embarks on a paradoxical journey through playful peace or sinister torment. Hybridised mechanical plants navigate chemical wastelands and strobing seed pod monsters overwhelm the displaced snake. This is a personal blueprint of imposed consequences of being different. I’ve felt ‘out of body’ experiences as a result of being victimised and this work communicates this through the personification of inanimate objects that ‘like me’ cannot escape the vicious cycle of peregrination.
ARTWORK PROCESS
Playful characters and environments explore sinister environments created from inanimate objects to provoke audiences to consider the idea of alienation. Peaceful and sinister sounds and monster-like hybrids re-enact themes of discrimination and stigma in a cyclic journey. Outer-worldly environments are created using stop-motion digital processes.
